The words worked into the background say “She acts like summer and walks like rain.” I think about that line a lot — you can be kind and still refuse to accept the way someone tries to treat you. You don’t have to live under the lens they cast you in.
I painted her not long after a boss tried to disparage my character. It didn’t land, because I know who I am, whose I am, and what I’m worth. That’s the feeling I wanted this piece to hold onto.
She’s part of the same series as Embrace the Storm, but I leaned into inks even more here. I loved how soft they felt, which is where the flowers behind her came from.
