This was one of the first pieces where I let the background go completely — long brushstrokes that read almost like rays of light, nothing blended or tucked into place. It’s what makes the whole thing feel like being at one with nature to me.

The palm branch above her casts a shadow across her face like a tattoo, her head tipped all the way back into it. That’s the feeling I was chasing — being so completely at one with what’s around you that you’re not even holding your head up on your own anymore.
