Bad Painting Club

No tutorials. No reference photos. No judgment. Just a canvas, a weird rule, and permission to make something ugly and honest - for an hour and a half, around my dining table, with seven other people who also can not paint.

How It Works

Once a month, for an hour and a half, eight of us gather around my dining table in Nexton Midtown. No experience needed, no talent required. Every session has a new weird rule or prompt to knock you off autopilot, and all materials are included — just bring yourself (and a drink, if you’d like).

$45 per person, 8 seats per session, first Thursday of every month from 6:30-8:00 PM. Seats are limited and this really does fill up, so grab yours early. Bring a friend, or come solo — either way you’ll leave with a delightfully ridiculous painting and a good time.

This Month’s Session

NON-DOMINANT HAND NIGHT — September 3rd, 6:30-8:00 PM. Our founding session. Everyone paints an entire piece using only their non-dominant hand. It’s exactly as chaotic and hilarious as it sounds, and it’s the easiest possible way to see what this club is about.

A Taste of What’s Coming

Every month is a different rule. A few examples from the year ahead — the rest stay a surprise until the month arrives:

  • Eyes Closed, First Layer — the whole base coat painted with your eyes shut

  • The Bad Selfie — paint an intentionally terrible selfie you take on the spot

  • Exquisite Corpse Canvas — a fully collaborative painting nobody controls

Meet Your Host

I’m Ronda Rogers, a local artist. I’m also building a full technique series for adults who want to develop real painting skills — but I wanted to open with something looser first: a night built entirely around letting go of the rules, myself included. Bad Painting Club is that night.
