When I started this portrait, I was in a stressful season — my day job felt heavy, and I was catching flack for speaking the truth. That slow, quiet pressure that builds when you stop feeling safe just being yourself.
So I picked up a brush I hadn’t planned on using: fluorescent oil paint. It doesn’t act like traditional oils. It pops, it resists subtlety, it forces you to commit. That was exactly what I needed.
She’s not looking away. No apologies. Unshaken. I think I needed to paint that energy and let her stare back at me — a reminder that it’s okay to show your true colors, even when it’s uncomfortable, even when it’s too bright for some.
